Profile. Anne Meikle

Anne had travelled extensively before coming to Clydebank in 1975. She has stayed in London, Wales and France where she trained as a cook and is a fluent French speaker.

A baker to trade she was the catering manager in a Glasgow school for 29 years. After the death of her first husband Frank in 1985 she joined the 'Dalmuir Tenants Association' because she was interested in what was happening in the area in which she lived.

Over the past 20 years that interest has evolved into a full time occupation. Anne is actively involved in a wide range of committees that have a bearing on the social well being of the community. Urban11, BB Futures, Social Inclusion, Youth Action, Lynx Care, SPARC's, Management Advisory Committee and of course Dalmuir Park Housing Association.

A keen photographer Anne joined Clydebank Camera Club in 1987 where she met Charlie now her second husband. At that time there was only one other woman member. (Both greatly outnumbered by the 46 male photographers who dominated the club.)

Anne is highly pleased by the way that the Association has developed over the years. "Being part of the Association is important, we have come on in leaps and bounds, and most importantly we are a strong organization with a long serving stable dedicated committee."

"We have a big commitment to our 'Broader Role' policy. This is the way forward and as we grow in confidence we will have a positive and long lasting effect that will strengthen our community."
