Laurie was born and lived in Clydebank until 1941. At the
age of three she was evacuated to Ardrishaig when her parents home in
Radnor Street Clydebank was destroyed in the Blitz. She has always stayed
in the vicinity and came to live in Dalmuir in 1980.
Laurie has been a serving member of the Management Committee for over
25 years. " I joined the management committee in 1981 to see if something
could be done about the condition of the building that I was staying in
at the time, a basement flat in the tenement at the bottom of Duntocher
Road".
One Thursday in 1982 the good news came through that the building was
to be repaired, I was of course delighted. On the following Saturday the
back wall collapsed. On Sunday the whole building had to be demolished.
It was all quite a drama.
"Through Dalmuir Park Housing Association I have become involved
in Lynx Care, Community Links, Employers in Voluntary Housing, Urban 11
and Clydebank Rebuilt."
Laurie is a keen landscape painter, reads widely and has a high interest
in architecture being a member of the Architectural Heritage Society of
Scotland.
In the future Laurie would love the Association to have the opportunity
to build more new houses and to be involved in the design and building
of a future project.
