....Station Square..

As part of the ongoing development, phase two of the lanes project is nearing completion. This has greatly enhanced the look of the area with landscaping, lighting, paving and decorative mosaic markers.

The children of the 'Out of School Care Group' worked along with local artist Tom Mc Kendrick to produce the moasaic markers.

They were base on Greek themes with a modern twist to celebrate a building that stood on the site, "The Crescent", destroyed in the Blitz of 1941.

The building was designed by one of the employees who worked for the famous Glasgow architect 'Greek Thompson'. So called because of the classical Greek style that dominated his work.

The mosaic project is dominated by a central piece which marks out the four points of the compass as well as the symbols used for the park, hospital, station and canal. A central direction marker points the way to these places to make the whole a decorative as well as practical feature. Tom Mc kendrick stated "Because the mosaics would be walked on they had to be built with great care...the children exceed all expectations, building them great skill and patience."
