Freedom of Information Act extended to Housing Associations
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) will apply to Housing Associations from 11 November 2019 and we are currently preparing the Association for the introduction of this new legislation. The Act states that we should publish certain information about our activities and allows members of the public to request information.
As well as training our staff and allocating this to staff’s responsibilities, we are also organising our records management and information in preparation to respond to requests for information and monitor performance of all requests made.
We will be liaising with all of our contractors to ensure they are aware of how they are likely to be affected by any disclosure of information requested and ensuring that our procurement processes and contracts now include provisions for the Act.
To comply with the Act and by the 11 November, we will adopt and publish the Scottish Information Commissioners Model Publication Scheme. This will provide details of the information that we will publish and how you can obtain this. Alongside this, we will be re-designing our website to include a section on ‘Guide to Information’. This will include our new policy on Freedom of Information, our charging policy and will provide full details on how you can access information.
We hope this will provide our customers with the assurance that we are open and transparent about the way we work, the services we provide and the decisions we make.
